Hat Dream
By Stephanie Kemp

I Had a Dream I was Wearing a Hat.
My daughter took a beautiful picture of that.

Sure, it might look a little dramatic...
but no life can be lived without some (hard earned) emphatic.

Always in dreams I know I am lucky.
Even when real life is scary or sucky.

My mom’s daily song was, “Get Up and Get Going…”
(I’m trying to hear it and channel her knowing.)

And sometimes just trying is more than enough.
(I’m remembering my dad now, and that life is, “Good Stuff.”)

Maybe that’s what I’m trying to share.
I miss my parents (and not just my hair).

I’m sure they’d (both) tell me, “Don’t forget how to feel.”
(“But hold onto to your hat because this shit is real.”)

I had a dream I was wearing a hat.
Our parents stay with us.

I’m so grateful for that.
